Dear Parents and Guardians of Students, Pre-K through Grade Eight:
I am extremely pleased to announce that both elementary and middle school students attained Adequate Yearly Progress on last year’s NJ ASK and GEPA tests in all areas!
There are several new initiatives which will greet us this year and are as follows:
¨ Through a State discretionary grant, we have expanded our kindergarten program to a full day.
¨ The Tools of the Mind Program offered in Pre-K will now be extended through Kindergarten.
¨ This year we will be incorporating the Collins Writing Program into our balanced literacy teaching approach in grades K through eight.
¨ In technology offerings, this year individual Study Island subscriptions will be provided to all second through eighth grade students. Study Island is similar to the Kidbiz program previously offered but is a more comprehensive and improved program that is closely correlated to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards. Study Island is an internet-based, differentiated instruction program that delivers Language Arts Literacy, mathematics, and science and is accessible to students 24/7.
¨ Through a multi-year grant, Bound Brook’s Middle Earth will offer an after school program to qualifying students in grades 6-8. The program is scheduled to begin in October, and more details will follow this communication.
¨ Facility upgrades for the year include new lighting and sound systems in the McLaughlin Auditorium/Gymnasium as well as freshly painted hallways and stairwells.
Please make every effort to welcome new staff members: Ms. Michelle Weight, seventh grade Language Arts Literacy teacher; Ms. Amy Shearer, full time LDTC; paraprofessionals Ms. Joni Dethlefsen and Mr. Patrick Roff. Congratulations are extended also to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Parente and Mrs. Kucsma who were married over the summer.
For safety’s sake, please be reminded that sneakers with retractable skating rollers as well as backpacks with rollers are not allowed. Be mindful of our dress code. Flip-flop sandals and tank-tops are not to be worn to school.
Also please be reminded to send your child to school with the recommended necessary supplies which are in the first day packet as well as posted on the school’s website at RMSchool.com. As a final reminder, for building entry and exit, Pre-K and Kindergarten students are to enter/exit the building at the main entrance on Elizabeth St. First and second graders are to enter/exit on the Elizabeth St on the South side entrance, third and fourth grade students on the Elizabeth St. North entrance, fifth and sixth grades on the Madison St. entrance, and seventh and eighth grades on the North side of the building by the computer lab.
Last year we continued to make great strides due to everyone’s commitment and outstanding effort. I look forward to working with you to build on this momentum to work toward elevating our students’ performance on State mandated assessments, as this school year the AYP bars of proficiency rise. We gained an exceptional amount of positive momentum during the last school year due to everyone’s outstanding effort. I eagerly look forward to sustaining this momentum and to working with all of you during the upcoming school year.
Sincerely,
Dennis J. Donahue
