Superintendent's Message

Dr. Lorise Goeke

Dear Families,

November is upon us!  I love this time of the year with the cooler weather and the beginning of the holiday season.   It also brings lots of yardwork as well, but I try not to let that part ruin my enthusiasm for the rest. J

This month will bring us a new Governor for our state, Parent Teacher Conferences, and the Scholastic Book Fair!  Thanks to Mrs. Suzanne Hanlon for being our Book Fair Chairperson extraordinaire!   As an English Literature major, reading is close to my heart, and it is always exciting to see our students picking out their new books.

As the month draws to a close, and Thanksgiving comes upon us, I share with you this poem by Raymond A. Foss.  I know it certainly describes my family gatherings at this time of the year!

After the Turkey by Raymond A. Foss

We sat sated in the den
ready for pie; but not quite
needing to sit a bit, settle our
bloated tummies, because
it was after the turkey,
after the rolls, after the potatoes,
the gravy, cranberries,
the vegetables, the stuffing,
the bounty of the feast we call
Thanksgiving, when seconds
become thirds, and the eye is
bigger than the stomach,
and eating is expected
Because cooking is love
and love is eating all of it
and we sit quietly, letting
the tryptophan do its thing
slowly easing the day
and making us ready
for dessert

At Thanksgiving, I am grateful for all of my blessings, of which the Robert Morris School community is certainly one!
