THE ROBERT MORRIS SCHOOL

One School, One Community

122 Elizabeth Street

South Bound Brook, NJ   08880

732-356-3018

Dear Parents/Guardians of Robert Morris Students:

It has come to our attention that there are continuing difficulties with the drop off of our students in the morning.  Please read the information below carefully.

As you are aware, the South Bound Brook School district is a walking district.  Because our school is located in a densely populated area with a small parking lot, we are aware that parents who choose to drive their children to school have some difficulties because of our unique situation.  Many of our students and parents do walk to our school, and the rules in place are to ensure the safety of all pedestrians as they walk to and from the school on a daily basis.  We ask that you keep this in mind, and adhere to these rules, and respect those employees who enforce those rules outside before and after school.

Please be advised that during days when school is in session, parents are to park only in the designated visitor spots in the employees’ parking lot on Elizabeth Street.  The yellow spaces have been designated as parking spaces for employees of the school and are not available for parents use between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Many of our teachers leave the building for lunch and are not able to find a parking space when they return.   If unauthorized cars are observed parking in those spots, they may receive a ticket.  Also, please do not park in the front of the school and leave your vehicle.  This causes a safety hazard, as it blocks the crosswalk in front of the school. MOST IMPORTANTLY, PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS OF THE CROSSING GUARD.  SHE IS THERE FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS.

Parents are not to enter or park in the employees’ parking lot on Madison Street.  Parking in the Madison Street parking lot places our walking students at risk, as many of them cross through the parking lot on the way to the breakfast program or on the way to and from school.  Double or triple parking in the Elizabeth Street parking lot makes visibility difficult for both walkers and persons driving through the parking lot.  If you would like to pick up or drop off your child without leaving your car, this practice will be continued as usual on the Elizabeth Street side of the school at the front entrance. To insure their safety, children should leave and enter the vehicle through the door closest to the school. If you would like to leave your car and wait for your child, please park along the street and walk up to the school.

We would like to call your attention to the fact that special handicapped parking passes are distributed on a “need basis” only. These parents will park along the middle aisle or in spaces that will be clearly marked. We ask that you respect the signs that will be posted outside near these designated spaces, and respect that sometimes all parents run late and not park in those spaces until after 3:15 p.m.   Your cooperation with this matter is appreciated.

In order to protect the safety of our students, vehicles not belonging to Robert Morris staff members, vehicles double parked, and vehicles without the parking passes  will be issued tickets from the police.

Your cooperation in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Very truly yours,

Lorise A. Goeke, Ed.D.

Superintendent/Principal
